Blue ate my shoe!

In case anyone was wondering, we still have the dog...not by my choice though. Tim really wants to find a way that we can work it out, having a dog and having children, but I just don't see how it is going to work since we've already had a couple incidents. It is hard for me to understand what Tim is going through having to face maybe getting rid of him. I personally don't like having a dog. He's so big (great dane), he leaves huge paw prints all over my clean floors, little grey hairs everywhere, and he smells like a stinky dog. Tim and I have had a total of 5 other dogs in our relationship, Blue being the sixth. We haven't had a dog longer than 2 years, Blue is the first one. Our first two dogs, a pitbull mix and a purebread pitbull were our first dogs. We had them for about a year and a half and they were both killed by a drunk driver. That was a very traumatic experience for both of us. Our next two were great danes, one was about 4, the other we got when she was a puppy. We had those ones for about another year and a half, and we got rid of the older one because he snapped at Tim's dad and had his arm in his mouth...we thought it'd be best to give him away, especially if we were starting a family. The other one died suddenly of bloat, a common thing in great danes. She was only a little over a year. That was also terrible. Then we got a little Chiuaua puppy. We had him until Charlotte was born, and knowing how nippy and cranky chiuaua's are, we had to give him up because we didn't want to take the risk of him nipping at Charlotte. And he was ridiculously annoying, crying all the time, yapping, and he didn't like anyone but Tim or I. We got Blue right before I got pregnant, when I thought I still liked dogs. Our other great dane had recently died and I got him for Tim to help cheer him up. He has been a great dog, gentle, loving and so beautiful. But with our recent experiences, I just don't think it's going to work out, especially if we're going to bring other children into our house.
Right now, Blue hangs out in our basement. Don't think we're horrible people or anything, he has a huge couch, a huge room, it's carpeted and has lots of windows. He only comes upstairs when we can sit and watch him to make sure nothing happens.

Today I saw that one of my new heels I bought on boxing day was missing. I went into the basement and saw to my disgrace that Blue had grabbed it on his way down and chewed the entire thing. My beautiful brand new purple heels! I was so mad! And I still am...it may take a while for me to get over. I need to grieve.

I don't know what to do about the dog. I know we need to get rid of him (not because of the shoe...because of Charlotte), but Tim really wants to find a way to work it out somehow. He is just devastated about this. If he has to get rid of him he wants to keep him in St.Catharines and give him to someone that'll let him see him and take him for hikes and all that. He really wants my brother to take him, but seeing as he still lives with my parents, it's safe to say that is not going to happen.

What would you do in this situation?

Have you ever...

Have you ever done something so random and spur of the moment you surprised yourself? I am definitely one to plan, and know exactly what is going on and what will happen. But the other night, I did something totally unplanned and had a blast!
I went out to meet Tiff on Friday night at Bosten Pizza since we hadn't gotten together for Christmas or New Years like we usually do each year. Fraser was down for the weekend (my sister in law) and was going to come and meet us after she visited some friends. And Alyssa decided to come out for a bit after she went to the gym. So we're all sitting there, and started talking about going to New York City...that's right, that night. Since Fraser and I have kids, it's a little more difficult to make sure someone doesn't mind taking care of them for a couple nights, and because Alyssa and Tiff had to work Saturday night, we thought it may be impossible. We made a few calls and after a few minor setbacks, we were on the road around 1:30am. Our kids were taken care of and the shifts were covered.

So we get to the border, and none of us had our birth certificates. Great, we thought...guess it wasn't meant to be. But they let us through, thank goodness it was a man at the border! Then around 3:30am we hit a huge snowstorm. I don't know where we were, it was so bad. After hours and hours of driving we arrived in NYC around 11:30am...with no sleep, I might add.

We drive right into the city, park the car and we're on our way to Chinatown for some purses! That was our main mission, and let me tell you, it was accomplished! We stayed there for a few hours (me, with no jacket...I forgot one since I was so rushed) bought some stuff and headed back to the city. We had dinner (ridiculously expensive), got some famous New York Cheesecake, and decided to go see a Broadway show, The Little Mermaid. It was awesome, even though the theatre was about 150 degrees and so squishy. Then we got back in the car, drove out of the city and got a hotel for a few hours to catch up on our missed sleep. We were on the road home at 7am and got back around 2pm.

Crazy! But it was a blast! I think it's important to do something out of your element once in a while. Although we didn't have anything packed, not even a hairbrush...it was still a fun experience. And I'm so glad Fraser got to come. I think it was really nice for her to get away from her baby for a night or two and be with girlfriends. Although she was super tired the whole time, and missed her hubby and baby, I think she had fun...and that was my main goal for the trip... well, and the purses...
